King 5 Seattle has now updated a March story that spread false information about a UW study on gender affirming care in trans teens (for background, watch Friday's episode at the 39:00 mark). While they changed only a few words, those words alter the entire crux of the original story. It now says gender affirming care reduced “odds” of depression in trans teens by 60% – rather than “reduced depression in 60%” of teens studied.
The change is significant, but the updated article mentions nothing about the egregious falsehoods spread by UW, or the efforts by taxpayer funded spokespeople to downplay errors.
